Casey is the H.O. Smith Endowed Director of the Arboretum at Penn State, a unit of Penn State Outreach. Its mission is to engage the academic strengths of the University in promoting scholarship and education about plants and their history and importance on earth. The Arboretum uses a 21st century land-grant approach with teaching, research, and service opportunities whether in the new (2021) 6-acre Pollinator and Bird Garden or elsewhere in its 370 acres. Currently board vice president of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, Casey’s emphasis on applied ecology, IPM, and operational sustainability reflect partnerships that benefit the horticulture industry, or any visitor to the arboretum regardless of age or ability.
